Welcome
to Blue Moon Aviaries, where we specialize in the breeding and keeping
of exotic birds. We
are located
in historic Kannapolis, North Carolina - about 14 miles north of Charlotte. Kannapolis
is rich in our nations history - both past and present. Cabarrus
County is home of the Reed Gold Mine and the Rocky River Presbyterian
Church where Revolutionary War patriots are buried in the cemetery.
We are surrounded by beautiful lush green hills, fragrant flowers
and the roar of Lowe's Motor Speedway - yes, this is NASCAR heaven!
Not
to worry, our little loves are not exposed to such noises, we are 10
miles from Lowe's and never hear any of the engine noise.
We started Blue Moon Aviaries in Stone Mountain, GA in 1995 and moved,
briefly, to Traverse City, Michigan in 2002. Our impeccable standards
were awarded an operators license by the State of Georgia Agricultural
Board (B431) in 1996. We kept our high marks and the license
until our move to the 'Great Whit North' in June of 2002. Our
excellent reputation
followed us to Michigan where we held a Home
Occupation Permit with the Peninsula Township (28-11-235-047-02) and
were members of the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce.
My love of the Vosmaeri
Eclectus began in 1992. I
was living in Las Vegas, Nevada at the time and was browsing the local
pet store looking
for toys for my dogs. In the back of the shop, in what I would consider
a small black cage, sat the most beautiful bird I had ever seen. I
asked the shop owner what breed she was and if she was for sale. The
shop owner
informed me that she was a Vosmaeri Eclectus.
This little girl was not for sale, she was just visiting, but I did
get the name and phone number (the internet wasn't really 'big' back
then) of the breeder and made an appointment to visit her facility.
Shortly thereafter,
I was the proud momma of a female Vosmaeri Eclectus whom I named
'Cleopatra.' Remember, I was new
to this and I didn't know not to buy un-weaned babies. Cleo was
on 2 feedings a day and I had no
clue on socialization techniques, proper varied diet or how to choose
an avian vet! Yes, I was in the dark.

Cleopatra and I have
learned a lot over the years and we have grown from a 2 dog one bird
family to a one dog
up to 21
bird family! Both
our beloved Nikita and Misha crossed over the Rainbow Bridge within a
year of one another. Cleo has taken it upon herself to teach our
newest furry member ('Carters' Face) just what is hers and what she does
not
share! But, Cleopatra will feed Face - who looks like Pete from "The
Little Rascals" and he will happily wait for her to toss him morsels
of what ever she feels that he deserves. Face is a Bull Terrier
born in November of 2002. He thinks that he is a Tea Cup Terrier
-- at 65 pounds!
He is our protector, our foot warmer, our alarm and - if Cleo is
in the mood - our vacuum cleaner!
I hope you will enjoy visiting our web site and I hope
that it gives you a bit of knowledge about us and our love of exotic
birds.
